Jerry Wood Crowned 2013 Champion and Natalie Decker Wins Rookie of the Year
by Kari Shear-Carlson
Jerry Wood, Natalie Decker and Andy Jones. Those are the three names who went into the history books on Friday night during the 44th Annual Oktoberfest weekend in La Crosse, WI.
Jerry Wood captured his third Truck Championship in five years. Natalie Decker took home Rookie of the Year honors, the only female in Midwest Tour history to do so, and Andy Jones was crowned the 44th Annual Oktoberfest Champion.
Natalie Decker, and Ben Pettis led the Midwest Trucks to the green flag on Friday night. Pettis took the early lead as the field settled into the 30 lap event.
Andy Jones wasn’t wasting any time as he made his way into third within five laps. As he ducked under Decker for the second spot, she spun bringing out the first caution of the night. Decker had to restart from the rear of the field.
At the restart Jones went to the inside of Ben Pettis. Pettis went a little wide and Jones was able to get the position and the two of them started to check out.
Camden Murphy moved into third as Justin Oertel tried to take the position on the outside but couldn’t seal the deal.
A late race caution allowed Pettis to line up on the outside of Jones for another attempt, but Jones once again got the lead and took it all the way to the finish line.
“That was just awesome,” said Jones. “I had so much fun. I hope the fans enjoyed it, too.”
Justin Oertel, Jerry Wood and Camden Murphy rounded out the top five. Natalie Decker rallied back to finish in the sixth spot.
