May 19, 2012 - The ASA Midwest SCAG Truck Tour kicked off their season at State Park Speedway in Wausau, WI on Saturday night, May 19th. Jerry Wood picked up right where he left off winning the first event.
Jerry took the early lead while the #97 of James Swan kept him just in his sights. As the race started to get settled, a blanket could have been thrown over sixth through eighth. As the laps started ticking away, Swan started to slowly close the gap on Jerry Wood.
Twenty-five laps into the 50-lap event, Wood and Swan were pulling away from the rest of the field while the #67 of Chad Knaus, #85 of Camden Murphy and #72 of John Wood were putting on a good battle for the third spot.
John Wood and Murphy were battling side-by-side and touched for fourth. Wood took the position. Wood continued to power his way towards the front working on Knaus for third. But soon after Wood got caught up in lapped traffic and lost two spots to Knaus and Murphy.
Meanwhile up front, Swan was once again closing in on the 73 of Jerry Wood, but he got as close as he was going to get finishing in the runner up position.
Jerry was happy to be able to start off his season with a win and is looking forward to the remainder of the year. “It doesn’t get any better than this. I am looking forward to the season and racing with Swan at every event,” said Wood.
James Swan was the winner of the Big Dog bonus, taking home an extra $500. “This was my first time here and I’m just really happy to be here. There are a lot of great guys to race against. I’m looking forward to it,” said the runner up.
