Four Drivers In The Hunt For The Truck Championship
October 3, 2012 - Lake Geneva, WI -After 8 races, the battle for the ASA Midwest SCAG Truck Tour Championship has come down to the very last event of the year with only 66 points separating the top four drivers. The 2012 champion will be crowned on Friday, October 5th at LaCrosse Fairgrounds Speedway in West Salem, WI.
James Swan is leading the points heading into the finale with 2 wins to his credit. Swan, who has not finished outside of the top-5 this season, will bring his #97 Hankscraft Mfg, Gear Driven Performance, Spring Valley sponsored truck to LaCrosse in hopes of earning his first ASA Midwest SCAG Truck Tour championship.
“Luck, that’s how I ended up in the truck tour this year, but I’ve really enjoyed running with the trucks. I didn’t know anything about them at first, but it’s really taught me a lot that has helped me in other areas of racing too,” commented Swan. “I’m going to LaCrosse to have fun. The truck is good enough to win the championship and I’m ready.”
Chasing Swan are brothers John and Jerry Wood in second and third place respectively. John has two victories for the year in his #72 machine and is hot on Swan’s heels just 51 points behind. John Wood was runner up in the 2010 championship.
Two-time champion Jerry Wood enters LaCrosse 57 points out of first place. It was just a year ago in LaCrosse that he was crowned champion for the second time after winning the tie-breaker over Austin Luedtke.
The fourth driver in the hunt is Dann Barber. The driver of truck #3 finds himself 66 points behind the leader after visiting victory lane twice in his sophomore season. Barber finished 10th in the 2011 championship.
